LanTEEAL 2.0 is an upgraded edition of the LanTEEAL released in July 2005. It contains the same 115 journals from the original LanTEEAL plus 22 new journals. Most juornals span from 1993 through 2006. Their content encompasses agricultural sciences in the broadest terms, from agricultural economics and crop improvement to food science and nutrition and natural resources management.
LanTEEAL was developed in 2005 for sharing on an institution's local area network (LAN) so that users have seamless access to full-text articles and abstracts from the convenience of networked computers. Just click on a link and the appears --no compact discs to insert, no Internet, and no waiting.
LanTEEAL 2.0 offers more features to make library research faster and easier. Students and researchers can carry out Basic and Advanced Searches using keywords, dates, authors, titles, etc. They can browse the content of every journal issue, just like in a real library. Abstracts and articles can be viewed, saved, and printed. The index and database of articles is comprised of abstracts provided by CABI, Biosis, Econlit, PubMed and Agricola, plus records created by TEEAL staff.
| Please Note: For institutions with older versions of TEEAL, either the CD-ROM collection or original LanTEEAL system, these systems have been discontinued and can no longer be updated. Most institutions with relatively up-to-date CD or LanTEEAL systems are eligible for significant discounts in upgrading to LanTEEAL 2.0. Be sure to contact the TEEAL office for more information. |
The LanTEEAL 2.0 index and database of journal articles are stored on a portable external hard drive not much larger than a video cassette. Institutions purchasing LanTEEAL 2.0 will receive the hard drive and a complete set of instructions for installation and use.
LanTEEAL 2.0 permits up to 10 simultaneous users. The PC workstation or server hosting LanTEEAL must be running Windows 2000, XP, or Vista; or Windows 2000/2003 Server. The client machines [providing user access to LanTEEAL] require Windows 2000, XP, or Vista. We recommend that you copy the content to a server on an internal network--then store the external drive in a safe place as a back up. Alternatively, though we do not recommend it as the best setup, you can network the external hard drive. A complete list of hardware requirements is below.
(Please note: It is strictly forbidden to provide access to LanTEEAL via the Internet.)
LanTEEAL 2.0 is provided on a 500GB external hard drive containing about 300GB of TEEAL data (journals). The drive is equipped with a USB cable and a power cord. Both the server/workstation and the external hard drive should be connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) that filters high and low voltages (recommended: Smart UPS).
The following system requirements pertain to the type of computer an organization needs to provide in order to load the contents of the LanTEEAL 2.0 external drive and allow 10 simultaneous users to connect to it.
| Computer | 1500 MHz processor or higher |
| Memory | 1 GB or higher |
| Operating System* | Windows 2000,XP, or Vista desktop computer, or Windows 2000 Server or higher, English version, which can be set to a regional language. (If running a Windows server, the TEEAL data cannot be loaded on the system drive which is usually the C drive.) |
| Free hard drive space** | At least 300 GB |
| Misc | One free USB 2.0 port, Adobe® Reader® 6.0 or higher (provided with TEEAL). With a USB 1.0 port, load times may be slow. |
* Users of LanTEEAL may use a Windows 98, Windows NT, or higher workstation. Only the machine housing the TEEAL data must be Windows 2000 or higher.
** Need to plan for growth, as TEEAL will increase by 10-15 gigs with each annual update.
*** With a USB 1.0 connection, load time may be slow (>10 minutes).
